Intro to Vaccine Effectiveness. Dispelling some common myths.

Vaccine awareness is on the upswing.  Everybody wants to know- are they safe?  effective?  useful?  I have decided to start us off with a basic article dispelling 10 common myths and countering them with truth.  If you aren't open to changing your mind, read no further.  The website I took this from is one of my faves.  Expect lots from here in the future.

Thinking About Your Labor

When you're pregnant you are probably spending some time thinking about your upcoming labor. What are your options? What are your plans? You might be thinking through all the different scenarios, and trying to decide what you might do in any given situation. You may have already spoken with your partner, and the people you have invited to your birth, trying to work out what might happen. Of course you won't know until you're in the middle of it, but that doesn't stop us from wondering.

Help! How Do I Fit Another Car Seat in My Car?

Here's the discussion going on at Pinkpeas right now. Car seats are fun, right? Not really. Necessary, but such a pain to find the right one and install it properly in your car. Just when you've got one down, along comes another baby and now you're fitting two in a car. Then, you're pregnant with baby #3. Wait - how do I fit three car seats in my little car?!? We have two pregnant mamas here in this exact situation. Buying a bigger car isn't really an affordable option. Here's a site that might help.

Back Carries and Ring Slings

I love my ring sling. It is so versatile and can do almost anything I want it to (not just carrying babies but lots of other tasks too!). But one of the very few complaints I have is that it is difficult to do a comfortable and safe back carry. I usually sling my little one on my hip and then slide them around to my back. That works for a few minutes but starts getting uncomforatble quickly and it is difficult to tighten to keep a wriggly toddler in. Also my shirt ends up twisted all the way around. Here's another way.

An unassisted homebirth...illustrated with cartoons.

Curiously Wrought - a new blog to check out

Here's a new blog I'm excited to follow:

http://curiously-wrought.blogspot.com/

Mom of six Tammy plans to blog the pregnancy and birth of her new little one expected in December. She started the blog on April 10th and only has a few entries up so far, so you can still start reading her journey from the beginning. She and her husband are planning a home waterbirth in Guatemala.

Birth Guilt

So, last night my daughters (1,4) and I watched Orgasmic Birth during PinkPeas movie night.  It was a great movie depicting normal birth.  Isabela, my four year old will surely be a midwife by the time she is twelve.  She helped to catch her baby sister and has stated that she does not need our midwives help in catching this baby.  She enjoys listening to "baby sounds" and palpating moms bellies during prenatal times.  She loves watching birth videos and asks for them at home like other children ask for their favorite cartoon.  She is a birth advocate

About Me - Amie

I am a Christian, wife to Norm and mother to three: Glen (5), Tasha (3), and an unknown little one due in July. It was an honor to be asked to work with Corrrine and the other ladies in the Pinkpeas family. I believe Pinkpeas is just the right home for some of my many interests. We are a homebirthing/waterbirthing family. I am a La Leche League Leader. I started and continue to run Vegaroos, the only babywearing group in Las Vegas. I am interested in natural family planning (NFP) and am working on becoming an NFP instructor.

Isabela's Birth

Our daughter Isabela was born September 14, 2004. Isabela was born in the hospital. We had the best hospital birth experience one could pray to have and we will never do it again God willing! I like to say that we really just paid to rent the room at the hospital, they left us alone for the most part which is exactly what we wanted. For that money we could have had her at the Four Seasons!
