Liliana's Birth
So, here is Liliana's birth story as written by my amazing wonderful midwife Corrine, I love hearing it from your perspective! I will preface it by saying this was our first homebirth, our amazing daughter Isabela was born naturally in the hospital. My husband will say that the most powerful aspect of our homebirth as compared with our hospital birth was how empowered we were as parents. We were responsible for our baby she was ours our gift not the nurses not the doctors not the hospitals, she was ours, what a gift!
A Fairy Tail Christmas Birth
Well, this morning at 5:05am, one of my dear friends called to tell me
that she could no longer sleep through her contractions, and she wanted
to give me an early warning. My head flopped back onto the pillow, but
that little voice in my head said, "She didn't call you at 5am to wish
you a Merry Christmas; if you want a shower, get up right now!", which
is what I did. At 5:25, as I was stepping out of the shower, she called
back and said things were going faster than she thought, and could I
come soon.
I arrived at her house at 5:50 and she was hands and knees on the couch. I listened
to the babe, and asked when she had last peed, and she said it was not
too long ago. Okey-dokey. With the next contraction she was yelling, "I've got
to pee, oh, oh, oh, I peed on the couch!" (Just a tiny bit.) She went
in to sit on the toilet. I quickly set up for the imminent birth, while
chatting with 3year old "big sister" dressed up in a brand new floor length
princess dress, complete with sparkley shoes, tiara, and elbow length
satin gloves.
I heard mom push with the next contraction and ordered her off of the toilet.
She protested, but toddled back into the living room. I told her that
she may get back on the couch or she may sit on the stool. She chose
the stool, and with the next contraction her water broke. I sat on the floor in
front of mom and asked if anyone would be brokenhearted if the princess
dress were to get messy, and was assured that it was all fine, so I
scooped the 3year old girl onto my lap as baby's head began to crown, and caught a
baby with the "help" of a little princess at 6:12am.
I was home by 8:30am, all my kids were dressed and packed and ready to
go to Grandma's house for a breakfast feast I didn't have to cook!
After her birth, we snuggled into the couch. Liliana nursing, Isabela taking a quick turn nursing with her baby sister. My husband helped Isabela with her Christmas morning as Liliana and I looked on from the comfy couch. No where to go, no nurses or cold metal furniture to concern us. My mom had been present and crucially important during the birth, she went home and brought my sister Lydia to see the baby. My pregnant sister Ashlee came over with much needed depends. Slowly all of my siblings and my dad came by in and out, bringing Christmas dinner to us. That is the story of our Christmas blessing.
